Engine gasket paste: what is a gasket?

A gasket is an essential part of car mechanics. Whether it is made of metal, paper, or paste, its role is to ensure the seal between two elements in the engine. Gaskets are used in many places in your car: transmission, cooling system, etc.

Warning: an engine restoration requires complete disassembly and reassembly of the engine. Don’t try to make something new out of something old! All gaskets must be changed; otherwise, you risk leaks!

Using engine gasket paste

Sometimes it can be challenging to find new gaskets in the correct size: gasket paste can only be used when the gasket needs to be sealed. If the thickness of the gasket is essential, it is better to look for another solution.

The first function of the gasket is to ensure a certain tightness between two parts. Malleable, the joint will adapt its shape according to the assembly. Once this is done, taking a new position will be impossible. It is therefore essential to change the gasket when dismantling an engine; otherwise, leaks are guaranteed.

Good to know: if you discover some minor leaks during an engine overhaul or some parts that seem to be tainted with dense material, it is essential to check whether you should change the gasket.

To use gasket paste :

– First, clean the two parts that the gasket will join;

– Then apply the paste evenly and lightly all along with the panel;

– Be sure to apply the paste to the center of the part;

– Leave only a deposit the size of a sewing thread.

Good to know: for the joint paste to do its job, it is essential to pay attention to the regularity of your gesture.
